Welcome to the Hervey Bay Mac User Group Website
The Hervey Bay Mac User Group is a newly formed club in Hervey Bay, Queensland. We meet on the first Thursday of each month in The Lakes Room at the Hervey Bay RSL Club, commencing at 7 pm. The Group was formed in an attempt to bring together Apple Mac users living in a Windows world, and who often feel isolated.
We are a small bunch of mainly low-tech non-geek Mac lovers who want to help and learn from each other. Our experience ranges from newcomers to Mac, and switchers from Windows, right up to more advanced and very experienced users. We are generally not into pulling things apart or writing code (although several of our members can and do) and many of our members are older people with limited computer knowledge, financial resources and download limits. With our combined knowledge, we can usually solve most user’s problems and queries.
We have no boring formal organisation or committees. Our membership is slowly growing and we are looking for more people to join us. We now have thirty members, half of them are female.
Most of us own relatively new Macs and are running OSX (pronounced OS Ten) Leopard, or Tiger. We have members with older venerable machines, some up to 10 years old and yet able to give very reliable service.
Our meeting venue is centrally located with excellent car parking, audio- visual and general facilities. We present a single topic each meeting followed by a Q & A problem solving session and then general chat and social interaction. See Schedule of Topics. Please explore the website and you will find many interesting items to help you further.
If you are interested in Apple Mac, own one or are thinking of purchasing one, you are more than welcome to join the group. There is no joining or annual fee, so why not come along and chat with other Mac fans. We do have a small charge payable only when you attend a meeting to cover hire of our venue, tea, coffee, etc. (details available when you contact us) Members are encouraged to join the RSL which makes booking in requirements much easier.
Any level of expertise is welcome, from beginner to experienced, and if you are one of the increasing numbers of people who are switching from Microsoft Windows, you are especially welcome. (More info here). (Recent statistics showed that nearly 20% of visitors to our website were Windows users)
If you would like to join us, attend a meeting to see what we do, or simply want more information, please head to our contact page, send us an email, or give our organiser, Ken, a call.
