The Hervey Bay Macintosh Users Group (HBMUG) was formed in May 2008. We meet on the first Thursday of each month in The Lakes Room at the Hervey Bay RSL Club, commencing from 7 pm-9pm and on the first Tuesday of the month at the Sixty and Better Group,  Hervey Bay Sixties and Better Healthy Living Program Dan Dinna House, Torquay, from 1pm – 3pm [See the NEWS PAGE for venue details]

The Group was formed to bring together Apple Mac users and to assist Windows users when they make the change to a Mac. We are a group of Mac users who want to help and learn from each other. Our experience ranges from newcomers to Mac, numerous switchers from Windows, right up to more advanced and very experienced users. We try to keep meetings simple. Many of our members are older people with limited computer knowledge. With our members’ combined knowledge, we can usually solve most user’s problems and queries. We now have a panel of Experts who can answer specialist questions.

We have no formal organisation or committees. Our membership is steadily growing and we are looking for more people to join us. Many of our members, have changed from Windows due to the ever constant dread of becoming infected with a worm, virus or malware, and have found that using a Mac is a relaxing experience and a simpler to use.

We have many female members, So ladies should feel at home. Most of us own relatively new Macs, iMacs and MacBooks and are running OSX (pronounced OS Ten) Lion, Snow leopard, or Leopard. We have a few members with older venerable machines, some up to 10 years old and yet able to give very reliable service still running an older version of OSX.

Our evening  meeting venue at the Hervey Bay RSL, Pialba which is centrally located with excellent car parking, audio- visual and general facilities. We are able to connect to the internet. a  Q & A session and then general discussion and social interaction. For details of meetings, please see the Meetings page. Explore our website and you will find many interesting items to assist and inform you further. The daytime meeting at 60+ is aimed at beginners and for members who are unable attend the main night meetings. (Current attendance fee $2.50 including light refreshments.)

If you currently use an Apple Mac, are thinking of buying one, or are one of the many people wanting to, or who have recently switched from Windows, you are welcome to join our group. There is no joining or annual fee, so why not come along and chat with other Mac users. Tea and Coffee are available free of chargeMembers (other than visitors to Hervey Bay) are requested to join the RSL in order to comply with their regulations.
